This sounds incredible. I wish I could have been there physically as well.

Two musical highlights:

A french man on Istiklal (Istanbul’s most important street) playing favorite song after favorite song of mine. He invited me to come busk with him after I played a little ditty on his guitar, so I think I will do that tomorrow.

Also on Istiklal, last night I heard a man playing gut-wrenching traditional music on kemancha and singing. He and I really connected through broken english/turkish/gestures, and he offered to show me some basics while I’m here.

I’ve been doing some hiking on the islands with people I’ve met. Just continuing to have beautiful experiences in a place I’ve never been before. I am staying safe, eating well, and thinking of you. I am thinking especially about how not everyone is raised to expect something from/contribute something to the world besides hatred, unfreedom, and games of power. fortunately, enough people are or manage to come to expect that on their own that there is still a glimmer of hope. because many of the people who are not built on love carelessly wield power over millions of people’s lives yet manage to think of themselves as victims-someone should have taught them to grow the fuck up. Thank you for teaching me to-I am still trying to learn.

Love,

Zachary
