Beyond his long-term membership in several bands, Zack collaborated with a wide range of musicians on projects both in the studio and on stage.
At Wesleyan, Zack played the part of The Band’s bassist Rick Danko in this just-for-fun cover band, The Band Band.
Wesleyan Jazz Ensemble
Zack performed with the Wesleyan Jazz Ensemble throughout his years at college. Here are recordings of two of their Spring concerts.
Khorikos
Zack joined Khorikos, a New York-based vocal choir in 2012. He performed with the choir multiple times throughout the city and even internationally, accompanying them on their tour in the Czech Republic in the summer of 2013.
Chadwick Stokes & the Pintos
Zack went on the road twice with Chadwick Stokes (of Dispatch and State Radio) — first in the fall of ’11 and then out West the following spring. Most of the following are amateur videos shot from the audience of the various tour stops. He’s featured briefly on “Elias.”
- Chadwick Stokes, “Crowbar Hotel” [Video]
- Chadwick Stokes & the Pintos, “All My Possessions” (Live)
- Chadwick Stokes & the Pintos, “Coffee and Wine” (Live)
- Chadwick Stokes & the Pintos, “Elias” (Live)
- Chadwick Stokes & the Pintos, “I Love Your Army” (Live)
- Chadwick Stokes & the Pintos, “Adelaide” [Tour Rehearsal]
Weird Wish
Zack and high school friend Dan Knobler met Jason Burger the summer after 9th grade at the Berklee College of Music 5-week performance program. They immediately melded as a trio and played together whenever they could that summer and for years after. The music on these two EPs grew out of those hundreds of hours of jamming.

From producer Zubin Hensler: “This was a fun little project with some instrumentalists in NYC and some vocalists from Seattle, just kind of layering textures and beats. It almost feels like one long bass solo; it’s pretty beat-oriented and repetition-based music, and Zack is playing incredible melodies throughout.”
Note: Zack loved Solkattu, a South Indian vocalization style he learned at Wesleyan. As far as we know, the only record of him performing it can be found here on the second track, “Bully Slide.”

Rachel Ann Weiss
Rachel and Zack were old friends from high school, so it was a special pleasure for him to play bass years later on her album, “Dear Love,” and at a number of gigs, including the duo show linked here.

Rodney Crowell
Recording with the great singer-songwriter Rodney Crowell and super-sidemen Steuart Smith and Larry Campbell was a special thrill for Zack and a few of his Mason Jar Music friends.
Rutgers-Newark Middle East Music Orchestra
In his final concert, Zack played bass in this Turkish orchestra as they celebrated the end of Ramadan. He takes a solo (3:15) in “Zahit bizi tan eyleme.”
